Leaders of Puerto Plata plan to close 2019 with an increase in tourists by air and sea

The Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster (CTDPP) indicated that Puerto Plata intends to close this 2019 with 450,000 foreign visitors by air and 750,000 cruise passengers.

This was explained by its executives when taking stock after having completed the eighth version of the Discover MarketPlace 2019 International Tourism and Adventure Fair, which took place from September 18 to 20, at the Puerto Plata Convention Center. They highlighted the high projection of the signing of new agreements that took place during the commercial meeting, since in the professional conferences some 700 meetings were generated between 80 participating companies and the more than 300 international buyers who attended the event.

And it is that, after exhausting an agenda of dialogues, activities and negotiations, during the activity the enhancement of the tourist industry of the destination in the North was revealed.

Roberto Casoni pointed out that "with the organization of the Discover MarketPlace fair, we are giving a strong boost to tourism in the North region, not only by allowing visitors to learn about the large and diverse tourist offer that we have through direct visits, but also with these linking and professionalization spaces that we provide to our tourism companies, who had business meetings with national and international tour operators to open up to more marketing alternatives and increase visits to the destination through this."

📷 On his side, José Natalio Redondo, president of the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourist Companies of the North (Ashonorte), affirmed that in terms of tourism the North zone has a well diversified, varied, sustainable and quality proposal.

“Our objective is to retain our traditional markets and attract new ones, creating a feeling of confidence and security in our destination, which is why every year we strive to maintain and expand our tourism fair, understanding the relevance that this commercial scenario represents for us.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the Tourism Cluster, Juana Lahoz de Beard, stressed that "we are happy and very grateful for the joint public-private work that we achieved with this version of Discover MarketPlace."

“Our effort was rewarded with the participation and success of this version. We feel great satisfaction, because our international guests enjoyed an excellent staging by the exhibitors, who were in charge of creatively projecting the wide variety of offers available that this wonderful tourist destination offers”, he pointed out.

It is recalled that on this occasion delegations from Central Asia, Russia, Miami, Portugal, Spain, Colombia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Chicago, Brazil, Australia, Venezuela, France, Canada, Mexico and Panama attended.

In addition, on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, Milka Hernández, director of the National Promotion Office, reported that considering the importance of the local market and seeking its motivation, for the second consecutive year, a familiarization trip was coordinated with 50 national travel agents who visited the fair to learn about the offers and attractions of the area and thus promote visits to the local market.
