President Luis Abinader said in his inauguration speech that the country, faced with the paralysis of the industry as a result of the health emergency, will launch a comprehensive strategy to be developed by the Ministry of Tourism with the support of all sectors that affect the industry.
"On the 24th, the government's new tourism strategy will be announced," said the president in his inauguration speech. He argued that, through the Reserve Bank, financing will be prioritized for projects paralyzed due to lack of assets, in the tourism, industrial and export sectors, so that jobs are created. "We will present the Tourism Relaunch Plan next Monday 24 with the aim of promoting it and recovering the influx of visitors prior to the pandemic," said the country's chief executive. The tourism industry has suffered its most serious crisis in the world, due to the Covid 19 Coronavirus pandemic.
Tourism in Pedernales Ambar Highway
President Abinader announced the full disposition and faith of the new government to relaunch Dominican tourism, by proclaiming that the Autopista del Ambar highway will be built for Puerto Plata and 3,000 rooms in Pedernales, an area that he aspires to be able to fully integrate into the hospital visitation industry. During his inauguration speech, President Abinader said that "The construction of the Autopista del Ámbar, which would allow getting from Santiago to Puerto Plata in just 25 minutes and from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata in two hours." The new president said “Perhaps now the private sector has its logical reservations to start new projects given the delicate international situation. But this government wants to tell national and international businessmen that this is the time to invest in the Dominican Republic.”
Pedernales, the new destination
In addition, the President of the Republic announced the construction of an international airport in Pedernales, to boost tourism, once the flow of passengers has been normalized, held back by the Covid pandemic. The airport announcement is related to Abinader's disclosure of the construction in the area of 3,000 new vacation rooms in various hotel projects. Abinader stated that this international airport is part of the strategic plan to relaunch tourism.
Public and Private Investment
"Fiscal limitations drive us to be creative and make the most of public-private partnerships to generate investments in areas that involve the creation of formal jobs and strategic works," he said. "Perhaps now the private sector has its logical reservations to start new projects given the delicate international situation, but this government wants to tell national and international businessmen that this is the time to invest in the Dominican Republic," he said.
Abinader announced that a favorable investment climate will be created, guaranteeing legal certainty, transparency and speed in the contracting processes. "And, furthermore, as of tomorrow (Monday) I am ordering all public institutions to accelerate the knowledge and decision of any investment that is paralyzed and that implies job creation," he declared.
